Beef Northwest Internships

The first intern in the summer of 2003 was offered a structured program to get hands-on experience in a working feedyard. We now offer internships in feedyard operations, business administration, risk management, information technology, and pasture management.

Our paid internship program offers students an opportunity for a $5,000 scholarship upon completing the internship and intern project. We have worked with numerous colleges and universities to help our students earn college credit while completing their internship with us. We believe in investing in the education of future cattlemen and women who want to be the next industry leaders.

We offer outside operation internships at our feedyard locations in Nyssa, Boardman, and Quincy. Operations interns will be assigned to a yard location where they will spend time in each department of the feedyard: Maintenance, Feeding, Cowboy Crew, Milling, and Office. They will have the opportunity to solve a real world feedyard problem and do a cost analysis presentation at the end of their internship.

Our business administration internships are offered at our Boardman and North Powder locations. Administration Interns will get to learn how to take numbers and data from each department on the yard and utilize it in a format that managers, supervisors, and front line employees can track and measure cattle performance. They will get to learn our different programs and spend time with each financial department and business entity. They will also have a real life applicable project and presentation at the completion of their internship.

Application Process

Every fall Beef Northwest starts looking for summer interns for the following year. We visit college campuses in September and October attending career fairs, Steer A Year and stockman clubs talking to students and making connections. Students will apply for internships online and go through a phone interview with either our human resources manager, feedyard manager, or office manager.

If students are selected as a finalist they are invited to our two day Intern Field day at our Boardman location. Candidates will network with numerous employees from all yards and locations getting a chance to meet us and ask questions. We pay for lodging and dinner that night. The next day will be spent touring facilities and doing mock projects and problem solving activities. We will evaluate students and they have the opportunity to evaluate us and the experience.

Chosen finalists are invited to do a working interview at the assigned location. If it goes well then a summer internship will be offered.

Any questions about the application process or if you want BNW to come speak at your college campus or group please contact Taylor Folkman at 541-898-2288 or

We believe in promoting from within, and in past years excellent summer interns have turned into full time employees with the company
